About Swindon Town vs. Reading
Despite historically being the Town's oldest local rivals, the rivalry with Reading has been superceded over the years by Oxford, Bristol City and, to some fans, even Gillingham. The clubs first met competitively in 1892 (73 years before STFC met Oxford),
As fellow founder members of the Southern League, Reading were the Town's first ever opponents in this competition - Swindon's first match in a competitive league. The Biscuitmen came away from the Croft having won by the odd goal in seven.
Swindon's biggest victory over Reading came in 1909, when four goals from Freddy Wheatcroft helped the Town to a 9-1 victory in the Southern League. Swindon went on to score 92 goals in that season, but could only finish as runners-up to Brighton, who the
