Division One Play-Off Winners 1992/93

Swindon regained what the fans saw as their rightful place in the Premiership after a seven goal thriller at Wembley, in which the Town squandered a three goal lead before snatching the winner from the penalty spot seven minutes from time.

After an evenly matched first half, Swindon took the lead just before half-time. Player-manager Glenn Hoddle, in what turned out to be his last game for the club, finished off a great move - passing the ball into the net from just outside the area.

It was the second half when the fireworks really started. Swindon doubled their lead early on, with a clinical finish from Craig Maskell - his shot curling in off the post. Minutes later, Shaun Taylor added a third, beating the keeper to the ball with one of his trademark brave headers.

The Swindon fans' celebrations were short lived. Leicester replied quickly with a goal from Julian Joachim, and then, spurred on by their fans, they added two more goals in quick succession, from Steve Walsh and Steve Thompson.

The game looked like it was heading for extra time, until a long through ball sent substitute Steve White bearing down on the Leicester goal. As he entered the penalty area, he was brought crashing to the ground by City keeper Kevin Poole (OK.... maybe he dived a bit....), and the ref pointed to the spot. It was then left to Paul Bodin to send Poole the wrong way, and Swindon into the Premiership.
