Strong centre back Minturn spent twelve years in Town’s youth system, before making two starts for Town in the Papa John’s Trophy in Autumn 2021. A couple of spells on loan at Chippenham Town to gain experience of senior football followed. He signed his first pro deal in March 2022 after being recalled to cover injuries in the first team, and made the bench on five occasions without making his league debut.
Unlike many Town youth prospects, Minturn’s second season saw genuine progress: whilst it started with a red card in the League Cup defeat to Walsall and loan spells at Gloucester and Chippenham, Town’s injury list and then failure to secure a centre-back signing on deadline day in January 2023 meant that Minturn was increasingly involved in first team squads from mid-December onwards. His league debut came away at Gillingham at the end of January, replacing Ciaran Brennan as a second half substitute, and just over a month later he had his first start: the rather challenging task of facing Champions elect Leyton Orient away in a three man defence alongside Tom Clayton and Joe Tomlinson. Town picked up a creditable point, and Minturn kept his place for Carlisle at home the following week, but was back on the bench as Town switched to a four-man defence with Toms Brewitt and Clayton preferred.
Where many Town prospects in the past have floundered in their second season as a pro, Minturn’s development continued at a good rate, playing more than 1200 minutes across the 23/24 season and not looking out of place amongst more experienced pros in an admittedly very poor Town defence. The rumour mill suggested that Middlesbrough were interested in signing him in January, but nothing came of it and they eventually signed 16 year-old Harley Hunt, while Minturn signed an extended contract at SN1 through to the end of the 2027 season. Minturn remains a confident defender - at times a bit too confident on the ball for his ability, perhaps, but it certainly looks like he will go on to be one of the most successful STFC academy graduates of the 21st century.
