Brought to the club on a free transfer at the beginning of the 2000/2001 season, van der Linden never really got a fair crack of the whip at Swindon, despite some good performances when he was used.

Comfortable on the ball, van der Linden was often utilised strangely by Andy King as a makeshift striker. After a bust up with King during the last game of the season at Stoke, in which van der Linden was substituted during the first half, he walked out on the club to return to his native Holland.
