Centre back Hunt was a first year scholar during Town U18s’ run to the FA Youth Cup quarter finals, and impressed alongside Sonny Hart as Town went through the first four rounds - including a win over Manchester United - without conceding a goal. Later in the season, he got his first taste of first team football, with an impressive substitute appearance against Walsall when Tom Brewitt was injured leading to him being trusted to make starts in Town’s final two games of the season away at Grimsby and at home to Morecambe. Town conceded seven goals across the three games, but that was par for the course for the season and Hunt certainly lost nothing in comparison to his senior colleagues, despite being at the younger end of his academy year and still 16 years old. In the game against Grimsby, he was the fourth youngest player ever to start a league game for Town.
That summer, Middlesbrough agreed a deal to sign the young defender from Town from amongst a number of suitors, with Town managing to agree an undisclosed fee believed to be well in advance of the minimum compensation for a player who was still unable to sign a professional contract, with some outlets reporting a potential maximum figure of £1.5m if his development continued.
