After regular choice Fraser Digby succumbed to injury, Heald was signed on loan as cover for Nicky Hammond in the latter stages of the 1993/94 season. Heald's debut came as a substitute, replacing Hammond in the 1-0 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday, and he conceded the goal in the 89th minute. Heald started his only game for the Town in the last game of the season against Leeds United, when Swindon lost 5-0 - Heald conceding the goals that took the total conceded for the season to 100.
