Player Profile

An experienced League Two midfielder, Dunne was brought in on a two-year deal after Town appointed David Flitcroft as manager, post-relegation to the fourth tier. He was one of several senior additions to the squad, breaking the pattern of Town signing mostly young players ripe for development and selling on.

A tenacious, tough-tackling midfielder, Dunne was perhaps not as popular with Town fans as players of his mould tend to be, perhaps due to his habit of being sent off at unfortunate times - he received his marching orders three times during his Town career in addition to seventeen yellow cards across his 80 appearances in red and white. Bizarrely, his final contribution of his first season at Swindon was a red card received for a tussle with Accrington namesake, Jimmy Dunne - surely the only time in history that two players with the same name were dismissed in the same incident!

His second season in Town colours saw him play a more peripheral role under Phil Brown and later Richie Wellens, but did bring his only Town goal - against Crawley Town in August. Appropriately enough, he not only essentially scored with a tackle - dispossessing keeper Glenn Morris and diverting the ball into the back of the net - but was sent off shortly afterwards for a two-footed tackle in midfield.

At the end of 2018/19 he was not offered a new contract by Town, and he signed for Barnet in the National League shortly thereafter.
